Alert | Ok, so apparently finding a simple PDA with a qwerty keyboard is one in a million. Only a handful are out, and most are combo phones/pda.
I just need a really simple PDA with a good keyboard input (must have). Not these uber uber cheap ones, but something along the lines of a palm. I was eyeing up the palm i710 on ebay mainly because they are selling them cheap. I basicly need one for database keeping, like names, places, contacts ect. One thing I didnt like on the i710 was the internal battery... but, it cheap!!! :D
Any thoughts on the matter? *waits for roosters rant* ;)

Alert | Well since I was asked by name... (lol) Actually, just one question - Would a fold-up docking keyboard be acceptable, or does the keyboard HAVE to be built in to the unit? If you can use a keyboard (be it docked, ie connected to or bluetooth wireless) I just might know a guy willing to part with an iPaq that can do this.

Alert | I had a handspring palm years ago, one of the first color palms actually. And I really tried to use the pen to input information. I just couldnt do it. A built in keyboard would be sweet, or a really good clip on (that would kinda snap over the unit) would be good too. Something that basicly snaps onto the unit, and wont come off very easily. I atually sniped one of those palms (thanks powersnipe) just this morning. Got a decent price on it ($43 with s/h).
I'd still be interested in the ipaq though. Get the model # and all that I let me know roost.
Thanks! :) | | | |

If you can use a keyboard (be it docked, ie connected to or bluetooth wireless) I just might know a guy willing to part with an iPaq that can do this. Are you referring to my doorstop/paperweight? :) If so, its a iPaq hx2795. I haven't really thought about selling it, but I've migrated completely to my BlackBerry and don't use it anymore. The problem with selling it is that devices like this are worth next to nothing second hand, but I paid through the nose for it originally. I would probably have issues with selling it for a song, but on the other hand its just sitting here getting older. It is literally my paperweight and I would have to be a complete [you know what] to sit on it when a brother could make use of it. As for a keyboard though, I really dont think they make one that attaches for it, and most of the fold-up ones I've seen are IR, not bluetooth. Not a problem though, it has IR, BT and 802.11b Let me know if you want it, maybe we can work something out.

Alert | Kayboards for the iPaq 2795: http://www.amazon.com/Hewlett-Packard-FA302A-HP-Thumb-Keyboard/dp/B0007WAC68 (never used/seen buy made by HP?) http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_detail.do?storeName=accessories&landing=computer&category=ipaq_accessories&subcat1=2000&orderflow=1&a1=Product+category&v1=Keyboards%2C+styluses%2C+%26+gadgets&product_code=FA802AA%23AC3&catLevel=2 (BlueTooth folding HP keyboard) http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=144042 (Belkin Bluetooth keyboard) http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&keywords=ipaq+keyboards&index=blended&page=1 (several options of docking keyboards, 99% compat. with ipaq).
For the record, I'm not pushing Teek to sell you his iPaq, nor would it be in the $43 range as the other pda you mentioned. I just saw your post, I know the 2795 is awesome (Teek and I have identical units) and I knew he had a new toy in the house.. You can look on ebay if our model interests you to prevent Teek from suffering from parting syndrome, and prolly score a great deal on one.. But then again, it truly may do much more than what you want/require, and honestly, in short the answer about it having a built-in keyboard is no, but there are several available. :)

Alert | Hmm.. interesting.
Well the ipaq hx2795 are pushing a considerable ammount right now, and no intergrated keyboard. But dang, those specs are crazy! It seems they just recently got the picture for these things to have an intergrated keyboard, which since my handspring days seemed so obvious. I tell you what though, hang on to that thing teek. I want to see how this palm works out, if it serves my needs or falls short. I like the fact of a windows mobile OS, just seems more flexible then palm. But I've been out of the loop for a long time for handheld devices. Which is more dominent right now? In the OS anyway.
Thanks guys!

Alert | I use verizon wireless, anyone use/know about the PALM TREO 650? Its cheap, its a phone, and a pda w/qwerty. The specs really aint that bad actually. I would be more worried about verizon being a bugger about it "not being one of their phones, and we cant activate a non-verizon issued phone".

Alert | http://reviews.cnet.com/smart Looks like Verizon already sells the 650. As long as its CDMA, you should be good to go. ;) But seriously, get a data plan, you'll love it.
