So my ISP has been on the fritz, and I think I know why. I've been having my laptop ping yahoo.com every 10 seconds for the past several days, then plotting the results. The graph below shows the results of over 35,000 ping sets (not actually all 35,000, just the history in a 48 hour view, I dont know how to get it to show the entire range of time that it was running).
I dont know if I should email the ISP, phone them, or what. But, to me, this shows that the ISP is being overloaded at the clt.wi.frontiernet.net (the hub for the greater area for their networks around here). Before this all started to get all horrible, I had an average ping of 80-120. Now, until about10:30pm at night, the ping is well over 250 or worse. I hate the fact that I may have to call them on something so obviously a problem for at least everyone using that hub. I can understand network traffic causing lag, yes, but nearly 700+ms! No way, unacceptable. |
